Excel SUMIF function
Adds only the rows that meet a condition. In Spanish Excel it is called SUMAR.SI.
Syntax
English Excel
=SUMIF(range, criteria, [sum_range])
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=SUMAR.SI(rango, criterio, [rango_suma])
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=SUMAR.SI(rango; criterio; [rango_suma])
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| range | The cells checked against the condition. |
| criteria | The condition. |
| sum_rangeoptional | The cells to add; if omitted, the range itself is added. |
Example
SUMIF(range, criteria, sum_range) adds only the rows that meet the criterion. The criterion can be a cell, so one formula works for several categories.
=SUMIF($A$2:$A$10,D2,$B$2:$B$10)
Common mistake
If you copy the formula, anchor the ranges with $ so they do not shift.
