Excel TOCOL function

Puts every value of a range into a single column. In Spanish Excel it is called ENCOL.

Syntax

English Excel

=TOCOL(array, [ignore], [scan_by_column])

Spanish Excel (Mexico)

=ENCOL(matriz, [ignorar], [escanear_por_columna])

Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)

=ENCOL(matriz; [ignorar]; [escanear_por_columna])

ArgumentWhat it is
arrayThe range to turn into one column.
ignoreoptional0 keeps everything, 1 skips blanks, 2 skips errors, 3 both.
scan_by_columnoptionalTRUE reads column by column instead of row by row.

Example

TOCOL puts every value of a range into a single column; with 1 as the second argument it skips blank cells. WRAPROWS(list, n) does the opposite: it cuts a list into rows of n values.

=TOCOL(B2:D4,1)

Common mistake

Excel 365 only. UNIQUE(TOCOL(range,1)) gives the distinct list of a whole table. For a row there is TOROW.

Why does TOCOL use semicolons in some Excel versions?
It depends on regional settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), Excel separates arguments with semicolons. English Excel and Mexican Spanish Excel use commas.
