Adds only the rows that meet a condition. In Spanish Sheets it is called SUMAR.SI.
Syntax
English Sheets
=SUMIF(range, criterion, [sum_range])
Spanish Sheets (Mexico locale)
=SUMAR.SI(intervalo, criterio, [intervalo_suma])
Spanish Sheets (Spain, Latin America)
=SUMAR.SI(intervalo; criterio; [intervalo_suma])

|---|---|
| range | Where the condition is checked. |
| criterion | The condition. |
| sum_rangeoptional | What gets added; if omitted, the same range is added. |
Example
SUMIF(range, criterion, sum_range) adds only the rows that meet the criterion: it checks the first range and adds the values in the third.
=SUMIF(B2:B11,"Guadalajara",D2:D11)
Common mistake
The order differs from SUMIFS: here the sum range comes last.

Frequently asked questions
- What is SUMIF called in Spanish?
- In Spanish Google Sheets it is SUMAR.SI. The formula =SUMIF(B2:B11,"Guadalajara",D2:D11) is written =SUMAR.SI(B2:B11;"Guadalajara";D2:D11) (or with commas under a Mexico locale).
- Why does SUMIF use semicolons in some spreadsheets?
- It depends on each spreadsheet's locale, under File > Settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), arguments are separated by semicolons. Mexico and United States locales use commas.
- What is the most common SUMIF mistake?
- The order differs from SUMIFS: here the sum range comes last.
