Excel CORREL function
Measures from -1 to 1 how closely two series of numbers move together. In Spanish Excel it is called COEF.DE.CORREL.
Syntax
English Excel
=CORREL(array1, array2)
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=COEF.DE.CORREL(matriz1, matriz2)
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=COEF.DE.CORREL(matriz1; matriz2)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| array1 | The first column of numbers. |
| array2 | The second one, the same size. |
Example
CORREL measures from -1 to 1 how closely two columns move together; near 1 is a strong relationship. FORECAST.LINEAR(x, known_ys, known_xs) draws the best-fitting line and estimates the y of a new x. TREND gives that line’s values for each row.
=CORREL(B2:B9,C2:C9)
Common mistake
Near 1 is a strong relationship; near 0, none; negative, one goes up as the other goes down. Correlation is not causation.
