Excel TREND function
Returns the trend line’s values for one or more xs. In Spanish Excel it is called TENDENCIA.
Syntax
English Excel
=TREND(known_ys, [known_xs], [new_xs], [const])
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=TENDENCIA(conocido_y, [conocido_x], [nueva_matriz_x], [constante])
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=TENDENCIA(conocido_y; [conocido_x]; [nueva_matriz_x]; [constante])
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| known_ys | The historical results. |
| known_xsoptional | The values that explain them. |
| new_xsoptional | The xs you want line values for. |
| constoptional | FALSE forces the line through 0. |
Example
CORREL measures from -1 to 1 how closely two columns move together; near 1 is a strong relationship. FORECAST.LINEAR(x, known_ys, known_xs) draws the best-fitting line and estimates the y of a new x. TREND gives that line’s values for each row.
=TREND($C$2:$C$9,$B$2:$B$9,B2)
Common mistake
With a range as new_xs it returns every value at once (it spills in Excel 365).

- Why does TREND use semicolons in some Excel versions?
- It depends on regional settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), Excel separates arguments with semicolons. English Excel and Mexican Spanish Excel use commas.
