Excel HLOOKUP function
Looks up a value in a table’s first row and returns data from another row in that column. In Spanish Excel it is called BUSCARH.
Syntax
English Excel
=HLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, row_index_num, [range_lookup])
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=BUSCARH(valor_buscado, matriz_buscar_en, indicador_filas, [ordenado])
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=BUSCARH(valor_buscado; matriz_buscar_en; indicador_filas; [ordenado])
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| lookup_value | What you look for, in the first row. |
| table_array | The whole table. |
| row_index_num | The row to return (1, 2, 3…). |
| range_lookupoptional | FALSE for an exact match. |
Example
HLOOKUP is the horizontal version of VLOOKUP: it searches the table’s first row and returns data from the row you choose.
=HLOOKUP(B5,B1:G3,2,FALSE)
Common mistake
As with VLOOKUP, without FALSE it matches approximately. XLOOKUP does both horizontal and vertical lookups.
