Excel IFNA function

Returns an alternative value only when the formula returns #N/A (not found). In Spanish Excel it is called SI.ND.

Syntax

English Excel

=IFNA(value, value_if_na)

Spanish Excel (Mexico)

=SI.ND(valor, valor_si_nd)

Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)

=SI.ND(valor; valor_si_nd)

ArgumentWhat it is
valueThe formula, usually a lookup.
value_if_naWhat to show on #N/A.

Example

IFNA is like IFERROR, but it only catches #N/A, the "not found" error. That way you do not hide other errors you do want to see.

=IFNA(VLOOKUP(D2,$A$2:$B$6,2,FALSE),"No price")

Common mistake

It is safer than IFERROR for lookups: it does not hide other errors, such as a mistyped range.

Frequently asked questions

What is IFNA called in Spanish?
In Spanish Excel it is SI.ND. The formula =IFNA(VLOOKUP(D2,$A$2:$B$6,2,FALSE),"No price") is written =SI.ND(BUSCARV(D2;$A$2:$B$6;2;FALSO);"Sin precio") (or with commas in Mexico).
Why does IFNA use semicolons in some Excel versions?
It depends on regional settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), Excel separates arguments with semicolons. English Excel and Mexican Spanish Excel use commas.
What is the most common IFNA mistake?
It is safer than IFERROR for lookups: it does not hide other errors, such as a mistyped range.
