Excel MOD function
Returns the remainder of a division. MOD(number,2)=0 means the number is even. In Spanish Excel it is called RESIDUO.
Syntax
English Excel
=MOD(number, divisor)
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=RESIDUO(número, núm_divisor)
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=RESIDUO(número; núm_divisor)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| number | The number to divide. |
| divisor | What to divide by. |
Example
INT drops the decimals, rounding down, and MOD(number, divisor) gives the remainder of a division. Together they turn minutes into hours and minutes, or pieces into packs and leftovers.
=MOD(B2,60)
Common mistake
A divisor of 0 gives #DIV/0!. The result takes the divisor’s sign: MOD(-3,2) is 1.
