Excel MODE function
Returns the most repeated number. Newer versions also call it MODE.SNGL. In Spanish Excel it is called MODA.
Syntax
English Excel
=MODE(number1, [number2], …)
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=MODA(número1, [número2], …)
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=MODA(número1; [número2]; …)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| number1 | The first number or range. |
| number2optional | More numbers or ranges. |
Example
The average gets pulled by extreme values. MEDIAN is the middle value of the sorted list and MODE the most repeated one. For salaries, the median describes the typical employee better.
=MODE(B2:B8)
Common mistake
If no number repeats it returns #N/A. It only works with numbers, not text.
