Google Sheets LET function
Names parts of a formula so calculations are not repeated. It has the same name in Spanish Sheets.
Syntax
English Sheets
=LET(name1, value_expression1, formula_expression)
Spanish Sheets (Mexico locale)
=LET(nombre1, expresión_valor1, expresión_fórmula)
Spanish Sheets (Spain, Latin America)
=LET(nombre1; expresión_valor1; expresión_fórmula)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| name1 | A name, without quotes. |
| value_expression1 | Its value. |
| formula_expression | The final calculation, which can use the names. |
Example
LET(name, value, …, calculation) names parts of a formula, so you do not repeat the same calculation and the formula reads like a sentence. The last argument is the result.
=LET(VENTA,B2,IF(VENTA>50000,VENTA*0.05,VENTA*0.02))
Common mistake
A name cannot look like a cell (such as A1 or X2): use words like sale or total.

Frequently asked questions
- What is LET called in Spanish?
- It has the same name: LET. Functions that started in Google Sheets keep their English name even in a Spanish spreadsheet. What changes is the separator: Spain and much of Latin America separate arguments with semicolons.
- Why does LET use semicolons in some spreadsheets?
- It depends on each spreadsheet's locale, under File > Settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), arguments are separated by semicolons. Mexico and United States locales use commas.
- What is the most common LET mistake?
- A name cannot look like a cell (such as A1 or X2): use words like sale or total.
