Excel MAX function
Returns the largest number in a list of values. It has the same name in Spanish Excel.
Syntax
English Excel
=MAX(number1, [number2], …)
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=MAX(número1, [número2], …)
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=MAX(número1; [número2]; …)

Example
MAX returns the largest number in a range and MIN the smallest. They have the same name in English and Spanish Excel.

Common mistake
For the maximum of only some rows (say, one region) use MAXIFS.

- What is MAX called in Spanish?
- It has the same name: MAX. What changes is the separator: Spanish Excel in Spain and much of Latin America separates arguments with semicolons.
- Why does MAX use semicolons in some Excel versions?
- It depends on regional settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), Excel separates arguments with semicolons. English Excel and Mexican Spanish Excel use commas.
