Google Sheets AND function
Returns TRUE only when every condition holds. In Spanish Sheets it is called Y.
Syntax
English Sheets
=AND(logical_expression1, [logical_expression2], …)
Spanish Sheets (Mexico locale)
=Y(expresión_lógica1, [expresión_lógica2], …)
Spanish Sheets (Spain, Latin America)
=Y(expresión_lógica1; [expresión_lógica2]; …)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| logical_expression1 | The first condition. |
| logical_expression2optional | More conditions. |
Example
AND returns TRUE only when all its conditions are met. Inside IF, it requires several things at once.
=IF(AND(B2>=95,C2>=8),"Yes","No")
Common mistake
Inside ARRAYFORMULA it does not work row by row: AND collapses the whole range into one result. Multiply conditions there instead: (A2:A10>5)*(B2:B10="Yes").

Frequently asked questions
- What is AND called in Spanish?
- In Spanish Google Sheets it is Y. The formula =IF(AND(B2>=95,C2>=8),"Yes","No") is written =SI(Y(B2>=95;C2>=8);"Sí";"No") (or with commas under a Mexico locale).
- Why does AND use semicolons in some spreadsheets?
- It depends on each spreadsheet's locale, under File > Settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), arguments are separated by semicolons. Mexico and United States locales use commas.
- What is the most common AND mistake?
- Inside ARRAYFORMULA it does not work row by row: AND collapses the whole range into one result. Multiply conditions there instead: (A2:A10>5)*(B2:B10="Yes").
