Google Sheets OR function
Returns TRUE when at least one condition holds. In Spanish Sheets it is called O.
Syntax
English Sheets
=OR(logical_expression1, [logical_expression2], …)
Spanish Sheets (Mexico locale)
=O(expresión_lógica1, [expresión_lógica2], …)
Spanish Sheets (Spain, Latin America)
=O(expresión_lógica1; [expresión_lógica2]; …)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| logical_expression1 | The first condition. |
| logical_expression2optional | More conditions. |
Example
OR returns TRUE when at least one condition is met. To compare with text, put it in quotes: C2="Premium".
=IF(OR(B2>=999,C2="Premium"),"Free","Paid")
Common mistake
Like AND, it does not work row by row in array formulas; add the conditions there: (A2:A10="X")+(A2:A10="Y").

Frequently asked questions
- What is OR called in Spanish?
- In Spanish Google Sheets it is O. The formula =IF(OR(B2>=999,C2="Premium"),"Free","Paid") is written =SI(O(B2>=999;C2="Premium");"Gratis";"Con costo") (or with commas under a Mexico locale).
- Why does OR use semicolons in some spreadsheets?
- It depends on each spreadsheet's locale, under File > Settings. Where the comma is the decimal mark (Spain, much of South America), arguments are separated by semicolons. Mexico and United States locales use commas.
- What is the most common OR mistake?
- Like AND, it does not work row by row in array formulas; add the conditions there: (A2:A10="X")+(A2:A10="Y").
