Excel BYCOL function
Calculates one result for each column of a range with a LAMBDA. It has the same name in Spanish Excel.
Syntax
English Excel
=BYCOL(array, lambda)
Spanish Excel (Mexico)
=BYCOL(matriz, lambda)
Spanish Excel (Spain, Latin America)
=BYCOL(matriz; lambda)
| Argument | What it is |
|---|---|
| array | The range to go through column by column. |
| lambda | A LAMBDA that receives one column and returns a single value. |
Example
BYCOL is like BYROW, but it walks columns: it hands the LAMBDA one whole column at a time and returns a row with one result per column.
=BYCOL(B2:E6,LAMBDA(col,MAX(col)))
Common mistake
Excel 365 only. The result is a row that spills to the right; for rows use BYROW.
